This book collects a series of articles by an anonymous undercover journalist and a reformed criminal that were originally published in the Manchester Evening News in, according to Chetham's Library, Manchester, 1874. Sensational, and possibly embellished, they offer a lurid contemporary account of gambling, prostitution, dog fights and other examples of Manchester's low and criminal life during the 1870s.
