This is a study of laws from 1636 to 1831 concerning spousal property in the Duchy of Cleves and the County of Mark, two adjacent states in present-day central Germany that were once part of the Holy Roman Empire and the Kingdom of Prussia. Ronne was a Prussian jurist, public servant, politician and diplomat who had an interest in marriage law. Among other achievements, he played a large part in the revision of the Prussian civil code from 1825-1828 and was Prussia's Ambassador to the United States from 1834-1844. This book once belonged to John Henry Wilbrand Stuckenberg [1835-1903], a notable German-American Lutheran minister, college professor, philosopher and public intellectual asociated with Gettysburg College. His will donated most of his estate to that college. His wife donated his library (which was later, for the most part, deaccessioned). OCLC locates 14 copies, 10 in Germany, none in North America.
