To the Sheriff of the County of [Hartford] or His Deputy...
"Take the Body of the Said Increase and Him Commit Unto the Keeper of the Goal in Hartford" [Connecticut]. [Justices of the Peace]. To the Sheriff of the County of [Hartford] or His Deputy, Or Either of the Constables of the Town of [Windsor] Within Said County, Greeting. [Windsor, CT?], February 28, 1795. 8-1/4" x 6-3/4" part-printed document, filled in and signed by Josiah Bissell, justice of the peace of Windsor, CT, docketed on verso. Moderate toning and light foxing, three horizontal fold lines with minor tears at margins, tiny stain near lower right corner. $150. * A fine example of a late eighteenth-century Connecticut writ of execution, this one concerning a levy on the goods and estate of Increase Hoskins by his creditor Cicero Phelps. Should the writ be unsatisfied, the sheriff is instructed to "Take the Body of the said Increase and him Commit unto the Keeper of the Goal [sic] in Hartford." Josiah Bissell II [1757-1839] and Increase Hoskins belonged to founding families of Windsor, which was established in 1633. Not in Evans, Bristol, or Shipton & Mooney.
