Catch and lower clasp lacking; hand-lettered title to fore-edge of text block. Exterior lightly soiled with faint dampstain to front board; rubbing to extremities and minor worming to spine. Spine head chipped, corners bumped. Internal worming to pastedowns; free endpapers lacking. Moderate toning throughout, negligible foxing. Lower corner of f. CCXCIX in Adnotationes lacking, final leaf of Libr Dialecticae Legalis neatly mended, no loss to text. Early ink underlining, brief annotations and attractive manicules to several leaves, mostly in Adnotationes. Ferrarius (Montanus) was a monumental figure in 16th-century jurisprudence and educational reform. Appointed by Landgrave Philip the Magnanimous as the founding rector of the University of Marburg in 1527-the world's first Protestant university-Ferrarius sought to harmonize classical Roman law with Reformation principles. His Adnotationes offers a systematic, humanist commentary on Justinian's Institutes, shifting away from medieval scholastic glosses toward clarity, philological precision, and practical legal synthesis.
