Sometimes attributed to satirists Samuel Butler or Sir Charles Sedley, this tract purports to be the will of Philip Herbert, an English courtier and politician in the reigns of James I and Charles I. Perhaps best known as an associate of William Shakespeare and a favorite of James I, he also played a role in the English Civil War, breaking with Charles and becoming a Parliamentarian. The pamphlet skewers his moderate politics, unclear religious views and associations with various political figures. OCLC and the ESTC locate 7 copies in North America, 1 in a law library (Yale).
