In a Series of Letters. London: Printed for J. Millidge, in Maiden-Lane, Covent-Garden, 1780. [ii], 35, [1] pp. Half-title lacking, text complete. Octavo (8" x 5"; 20.5 x 12.8 cm). Disbound pamphlet. Moderate toning, light soiling and faint crease lines to exterior, light foxing and small spots to a few places in text. $450. * Only edition. Bankruptcy reform was a major economic and political issue in eighteenth and nineteenth-century Britain. The present title collects a series of letters "written by different hands for different News Papers" concerning a bill pending in Parliament that would reform the bankruptcy system. Some found the bill "replete with equity and mercy." Others agreed with its principles but found its "remedy not sufficient for the disease." In general, the letters collected here speak favorably of the bill. Like many others of its kind, however, it failed to pass. OCLC and the ESTC locate 4 copies in North America, none in law libraries. English Short-Title Catalogue N42067.
