Rubbing to exterior, some scuffing and faint staining to boards, which are separating at foot but secured by cords, moderate wear to spine, lettering piece chipped, spine ends abraded, corners bumped, endleaves lightly edgeworn and separating at foot but secure. Moderate toning and light foxing to interior, both uneven and somewhat lighter or heavier in places. Early owner signatures of Hiram Gates to front endleaves in ink, early owner inscriptions of Hiram Gates (indicating acquisition of the book in 1793) and John Elderkin (indicating acquisition of the book in 1887 from "Mrs. H. Gates") to front free endpaper. $150. * First edition. A comprehensive reference guide for professionals and lay people in Connecticut. A second edition was published in 1798. Educated at Dartmouth and Yale, Goodrich "had several different occupations, in 1784 he became a member of the County Medical Society; in 1786 and for a few years thereafter, he ran a drug store; later he kept an inn and served as a constable; and by 1793 he had become a lawyer" (Cohen).
