Letters of Delegates to Congress, 1774-1789. 26 vols. Complete set.

[United States Congress]. Letters of Delegates to Congress, 1774-1789. Paul H. Smith [Editor]. Washington: Library of Congress, 1976-2000. 26 volumes. Complete set. Octavo. Illustrated. Publisher's blue and red cloth hardcover with gilt stamped spine and covers. Volumes 21 to 25 with some highlighting to text. Very light shelfwear. $750. * The scope of this edition is to make accessible "all the documents now available that were written by the delegates to Congress and that bear directly upon their work during the years of actual service in the Congress of the United States, 1774-89." It thus represents a significant expansion of Edmund C. Burnett's earlier eight-volume work, Letters of Members of the Continental Congress (published 1921-1936). Volume 25 in the present set is the final textual volume containing the extant correspondence of the 344 delegates who attended the Continental Congresses during the American revolution. It covers the period from March 1, 1788 to July 25, 1789 through July 25, 1789, during which Congress carried on the nation's business under the Articles of Confederation while preparing to transfer authority to the federal government under the newly ratified Constitution. An invaluable tool for historical research. Volume 26 contains the Cmulative Index with List of Delegates to Congress 1774-1789.
