The book contains 22 insightful interviews and profiles including a colorful interview by Berton with famed counterculture comedian Lenny Bruce about his obscenity accusations. Laid in this copy is a signed letter by Carl Montgomery, manager of the Hotel Marlton, which housed many famed 1960's counterculture figures such as Bruce, to "Ron" or Ronald [K. L.] Collins, the First Amendment lawyer who researched and wrote about Bruce's obscenity trials in The Trials of Lenny Bruce. Montgomery praises Collins' balanced scholarship and notes that Berton's interview with Bruce stands out from others of the period. He reflects on Bruce's character, paraphrasing a passage to Collins on judging individuals by their personal interactions rather than their reputation. Montgomery goes on to promise more material on Bruce, and further pleasantries with Collins.
